Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) or ‘tapping,’ combines cognitive therapy, exposure therapy, and self-acupressure to quickly lower stress and emotional charge. Tapping is easy to learn and is a tool that you can use anytime to help you feel better fast. Results tend to be immediate and lasting. Read on to learn more about why EFT/Tapping is one of our most popular classes on WellSet.
How it WorksIn EFT, you gently tap on a series of meridian points, or acupuncture points, on the face and body while repeating statements aloud. This sequence sends safety signals to the part of the brain that processes emotions and activates our stress response. "Through EFT, we down-regulate and smooth out the energetic disruption, with a twofold result: The signal of safety sent through the tapping tells your brain’s stress machinery to disengage, and we re-condition your brain with a positive association,” says EFT/Tapping practitioner and WellSet Instructor Amy Piper.
The Evidence
Tapping helps lower cortisol, which regulates the body’s stress response and even impacts immune function. There have been 100+ studies that support EFT’s efficacy in significantly reducing anxiety, depression, pain, cravings, and PTSD. In fact, cortisol levels decrease significantly within just one hour of tapping!
